BBQ Naan Pizza Recipe
Share
This weather has been gorgeous, so I’ve been cooking as much as possible on the BBQ, mostly so I don’t heat up the house and we can eat dinner outside.
The neighbours were over the other day and I was craving pizza. I took one look at the pre-made dough at the supermarket and… no thanks. Then I remembered the local supermarket is stocking frozen naan. It crisps up beautifully, tastes great, and doesn’t come with a list of ingredients you can’t pronounce.

BBQ NAAN PIZZAS (FAST BACKYARD PIZZA NIGHT)
What you’ll need
- Frozen naan (we love Ashoka brand, plain naan)
- Tomato sauce (Mutti with basil)
- Cheese
- Mushrooms, or any favourite toppings
- Fresh basil (optional)
- For the parents: rucola and Pizza Chilli Crisp
Method
- Heat the oven, or fire up the BBQ with the lid down, to as hot as possible and a pizza stone inside.
- If you’re using mushrooms or other veg, pre-cook them first (I throw sliced mushrooms onto the BBQ flat top for a few minutes).
- Spread tomato sauce onto the naan.
- Add fresh basil leaves (if using).
- Add a little cheese.
- Add any extras: mushrooms, aubergine, pepperoni, peppers, whatever you’re into.
- Finish with more cheese.
- Slide onto the pizza stone and bake for 2 to 3 minutes, until the cheese is melted and golden.
Quick note: Keep an eye on the bases. Naan can go from perfectly crisp to burnt faster than you think.
Happy eating.
